Track and Field
Club Week
Christchurch Avon caters for children wishing to develop the athletic abilities. Plenty of opportunities to meet new friends, learn some new skills and compete regularly.
All abilities are catered for. The track and field season runs from October to April each year. This is also divided into two age categories:
Junior Track and Field – 5 to 14 years old
Senior Track and Field – 15 years old and older
Club Night
Club nights are Wednesday 5.00-6.45pm at Burnside High School. All athletes who attend, receive group coaching to learn the skills required for all track and field events. The children participate in a warm up and then 4 events. Parents and caregivers are required to perform a number of parent help duties each season.
Inter-Club Competition
Inter-club competitions are held at Nga Puna Wai, from 8.25 -12.45. New, registered athletes are invited to try 2 Saturday competitions free of charge before a commitment to our Saturday team. Club Uniform is required for Saturday athletes – CHAV singlet, plain black shorts and CHAV track -suit.
Inter-Club Training
Children 10yrs and over who register for Saturday inter-club can participate in an additional training session on Monday evenings and receive more specific coaching in track and field skills. Please contact us for more details.
Hi Everyone,
Here is some information for those of you interested in 2024/25 summer athletics and running. The club operates two sections in the summer season.
1. Our children's section (up to grade 14) has a Wednesday club night and the option of Saturday morning interclub at Nga Puna Wai. Interclub athletes also have additional coaching groups they can join.
2. Craig also has a running group that operates during the summer season. This group is generally open to school year 7 and older runners. It may suit school year 7/8 children who want to do some running, but not take part in all athletic activities. Please note that grade 13 athletes can compete at Saturday Senior interclub in the year in which they start high school. For some, that could be from the opening day in October in any given year or from 1st January the following year. Grade 14 and older athletes are eligible for Saturday Senior interclub. Craig's training group meets on Monday and Wednesday starting at 6pm. Contact Craig (craig.eustace@xtra.co.nz) to be added to his summer email list or for more information.
Have a great summer!
Craig
